Jackfruit is a wearable device for children that helps foster healthy food choices. The design was inspired by cutting edge food technology being developed by MIT and Target’s Food + Future CoLab and informed by research into the psychology of how habits are formed and reformed.
The wearable allows children to scan foods in order to feed their “pet.” Their pet responds positively to healthy foods and gains powers based on different nutrients. Users can then use these powers to battle each other. A partner app allows users to track their pet’s progress in greater detail and learn more about the nutrients they’re feeding their pet.The goal was to increase exposure to healthy foods in a fun and engaging way.
The illustrations I've included are sketches I created for presenting various stages of our process. The second page of thumbnail sketches represents an earlier iteration where we were more focused on building relationships with food through school gardens. I am still very intrigued by this idea.
Jackfruit was completed to fulfill an assignment for Innovation By Design, along with fellow TIE majors Preunky Akther, Clara Lee and Rachael Phillips. *Photo of prototype by Preunky, modeled by Clara.
